Zebu cattle are
known to be one of the oldest breeds of cattle in the world
It is possible they existed as far back as
3000 B.C.
Thought to come from India, where they
were known as Nadudana, or small cattle
During the early 1900's, a few of these
cattle were imported for use in circuses and zoos.
Zebus are true miniatures; they are
not bred down from larger breeds. They are naturally small.
The first thing you notice about a zebu is
their hump.
Both cows and bulls have a hump, but the
male's hump is usually much bigger
Miniature Zebus are hearty and disease
resistant
They love hot weather and will lay in
full sun on the hottest days of the year.
On windy or cold days they prefer to spend
their time inside a shelter.
Because of their size, they are well
suited to a small farm. They require only 1/3 of what "regular size"
cattle need.
Miniature Zebu cattle are perfect to gain
an Agricultural Exemption on small acreages in some areas. Check with
your local Property Valuation Administrator for details. |
